June 2026 U.S. Retail Sales: Consumer Spending Remains Resilient
Download June Retail Sales Report
U.S. retail sales continued to grow in June 2026, although the pace of consumer spending slowed amid pressure from energy prices, tariffs and persistent inflation. Total retail sales increased 0.2% from the prior month, while May growth was revised upward to 1.0%. Excluding automotive and gasoline sales, spending rose 0.4% for the month and 5.7% year over year.
Performance varied considerably across retail categories. Nonstore retailers, including ecommerce businesses, recorded strong monthly and year-over-year growth, while sporting goods, hobby, musical instrument and book stores also posted notable gains. Grocery stores, apparel retailers and several other consumer categories declined during the month, illustrating the uneven nature of current retail spending.
RetailStat’s June U.S. retail sales analysis places the latest Census data within the broader economic environment, including household budget pressure, inflation, gasoline prices, interest rates and tariff uncertainty. The report also includes category-level retail sales results, ecommerce data and upcoming comparison periods that could influence reported growth through the remainder of 2026.
